The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has dismissed the gazette notice circulating online.
The fake notice lists the names of candidates declared winners ahead of the by-elections.
IEBC has scheduled by-elections in Tembelio and Metkei Wards on November 27th, 2025.
However, the fake notice stated that no contest for members of Tembelio and Metkei Wards in the coming by-elections.
The fake Gazette Notice circulating online is tittled “Declaration of No Contest for Members of Tembelio and Metkei Wards in the By-Elections scheduled for 27th November 2025.”

The commission has urged the public to disregard it with immediate effect.
“Fake News Alert: The Gazette Notice circulating online titled “Declaration of No Contest for Members of Tembelio and Metkei Wards in the By-Elections scheduled for 27th November 2025” is fake. The Commission advises the public to disregard it,” IEBC said.
Additionally, IEBC urged the public to visit their official websites and verified social media handles for accurate information.
“Visit our website and verified social media accounts for accurate information,” IEBC said.

IEBC Chair Erastus Ethokon said the November by-elections will test the commission’s credibility, public trust, and readiness for the upcoming general elections.
He noted that the country is anxious and closely watching to see what kind of commission will oversee the elections.
“As IEBC plans for these by-elections, know that the expectations are high, scrutiny will be intense, and you should rise to the occasion. The country is anxious and keen to evaluate the kind of commission in place under my leadership,” Ethokon stated.
He added that expectations from the public to conduct free and fair elections are high.
