Kalonzo Raises Alarm Over Alleged Land Grab and Mass Evictions in Taita Taveta

Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has called for justice for families allegedly evicted from their homes in Jipe/Mwakoshemi Village, Taita Taveta County, amid a dispute over land ownership.

Kalonzo visited the area on August 28, 2026, where he said he met residents affected by what he described as an illegal eviction and land grab.

He claimed the evictions had forced hundreds of residents, including women, children and persons with disabilities, into makeshift shelters without food or water.

“Today I travelled to Jipe/Mwakoshemi Village, Taita Taveta County, to stand with citizens whose land, dignity and constitutional rights have been trampled upon by Mr. Ruto’s regime. What I witnessed is a naked abuse of state power. Private land belonging to the people of Jipe/Mwakoshemi has been forcefully grabbed, and the rightful occupants evicted from their homes in the dead of night by police officers who should be protecting them, not terrorising them,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo Raises Concerns Over Displaced Families

Furthermore, Kalonzo claimed the alleged land grab had affected both homes and schools in the area. He said the dispute had prevented children from accessing education, which he linked to the constitutional right to education under Article 43.

He also described the alleged evictions as a violation of Articles 40 and 43 of the Constitution, arguing that the affected residents had suffered violations of their rights.

“This is a brazen violation of Articles 40 and 43 of the Constitution, and it will not go unanswered,” he said.

Kalonzo Takes Land Dispute to Parliament and Court

Meanwhile, Kalonzo said he had begun pursuing the matter through Parliament and the courts, instructing National Assembly Deputy Minority Leader and Kathiani MP Robert Mbui to raise the issue on the floor of Parliament without delay.

In addition, Kalonzo said his advocates, led by WPF spokesperson Ndegwa Njiru, would move to court and pursue contempt proceedings against the Registrar of Lands.

He accused the Registrar of Lands of wilfully refusing to cancel what he described as fraudulently obtained titles, despite standing orders of the court.

“No official of this regime is above the law. Those who signed, stamped and enforced this land grab will be named and they will answer for it,” Kalonzo said.

Vows to Stand With Affected Families

Beyond the parliamentary and legal action, Kalonzo assured the affected families that he would continue pursuing the matter. He said he would not rest until justice was served and every family was resettled on what he described as land that rightfully belonged to them.

Finally, the WPF leader visited Jipe/Mwakoshemi alongside leaders from the United Alternative Government-in-Waiting, including Justin Muturi, Eugene Wamalwa, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako, Voi MP Abdi Khamis Chome, WPF Chairman Jamleck Kamau and Aisha Jumwa.
