Member of County Assembly (MCA) Joseph Ole Torris of Ewuaso Ward in Kajiado West, Kajiado County, has dumped the ODM Party and joined the DCP.

DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua welcomed Ole Torris to the party, saying he will defend his seat on a DCP ticket in the 2027 General Election.

“He was elected on an ODM ticket, but he has obeyed the wishes of his people to defend his seat on a DCP ticket in August 2027,” said Gachagua.

Joseph Ole Torris was elected MCA in 2022 on an ODM ticket but has now shifted to DCP as the 2027 general elections approach.

DCP

Gachagua says DCP is the party of the moment and the future, which will transform Kenya and the Maa Nation come 2027.

Joseph becomes one of the latest elected leaders to abandon his former political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His move to DCP has marked a significant political shift in a county where ODM was usually supported together with other major political parties.

Lately several politicians have been shifting allegiance as they continue to position themselves and strategize in preparation for the elections.

Political Shift

This political shift is expected to intensify political competition in Kajiado as may political parties continue seeking to strengthen their networks before the official campaign.

Joseph moving to DCP adds to the growing number of political leaders who have also joined Gachagua’s party.

However, Joseph has not yet mentioned specific reasons why he has left ODM although Gachagua insists that his move was informed by the wishes of the people he represents.

Recently Gachagua has intensified his interactions with the Maa community saying DCP will transform it together with the whole country.

Leaders Moving To DCP

The MCA becomes the first leader elected under an ODM ticket to move to Gachagua’s DCP.

Gachagua has claimed severally that the Maa Region was among the party’s three strongholds that would hand him 10 million votes.

Douglas Masikonde, representing Narok Town Ward, was among the first leaders to be elected under the DCP Party in the November 2025 by-elections. The other MCA is Kisa East’s Aduda Okwiri.

Popularity of DCP in the Maa Region was also demonstrated in the Emurua Dikirr by-election when candidate Vincent Rotich came in second with 10,760 votes in a region perceived as a UDA stronghold.
