Nyandarua Governor Moses Kiarie Badilisha ditches President Ruto’s UDA party to join former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua’s party DCP.

Moses announced while at Gachagua’s Wamunyoro residence, where he arrived accompanied by a delegation he said had over 300 grassroots mobilisers.

The governor’s move marks a significant political development in the Mt. Kenya region where UDA and DCP are competing for support ahead of the 2027 general elections.

His move to DCP comes weeks after DCP won the parliamentary by-election in Ol Kalou, which has since intensified speculation about possible political shifts in the county.

Moses was elected the governor of Nyandarua on a UDA ticket in the 2022 general elections and has been associated with the party until his recent shift.

Additionally, his latest announcement makes him one of the senior elected leaders in Nyandarua to publicly align himself with Gachagua’s party, DCP.

The announcement that he was switching parties was made at Wamunyoro with the presence of his supporters and political leaders, with videos of the event making rounds on social media.

In a statement dated July 29, DCP leader Gachagua announced that Kiarie and the members of the Nyandarua County Assembly had officially ditched the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and would defend their seats in 2027 on a DCP ticket.

“I am delighted to receive Governor Kiarie Badilisha of Nyandarua County and the entire County Assembly into the DCP Party,” read part of Gachagua’s statement.

According to Gachagua, Governor Badilisha and his team had joined the party in response to what he termed the ‘liberation of Kenya’ movement.

“The people of Nyandarua County, led by their Governor, have brought a message of goodwill from the people of Nyandarua County; they are answering the call for the liberation of Kenya. To them, the future is green,” Gachagua disclosed.

Gachagua added that the party shared the same vision for the country’s future and expressed confidence that DCP would achieve its political goals ahead of the next General Election.
