Gachagua Suffers Blow as Mt. Kenya Parties Reject Calls to Dissolve and Join DCP

Gachagua faces a blow as leaders from the Democratic Party, PNU, Umoja na Maendeleo Party and BUS Party reject calls from him urging them to dissolve their parties and join DCP.

In a joint statement issued on August 4 2026, the leaders of these parties say that they cannot dissolve their own parties and join DCP and that each political party is an independent institution.

“We wish to state, unequivocally, that every political party is an independent institution established under the Constitution and the laws of Kenya, with its own members, delegates, elected officials and governance structures,” read part of the statement.

The parties said Kenyans have a constitutional right to form, join and participate in political parties of their choice and noted that no individual has the mandate to determine the future of another political party.

Political Parties

While reaffirming Kenyans on their commitment to working to find President Ruto’s successor, the leaders say the political parties should be based on mutual respect rather than coercion.

Further, the statement also questioned what it termed as a contradiction in Gachagua’s political approach, noting that while he has called for other parties to dissolve into DCP, he has also been engaging elected UDA leaders and senior government officials

“It is equally contradictory for Hon. Gachagua to advocate for the dissolution of established political parties while simultaneously hosting elected UDA leaders and engaging senior government officials, openly inviting them to his residence. If he genuinely believes in political,” said the statement.

The parties dismissed any suggestion that Gachagua has been mandated to speak on behalf of all political parties or residents of the Mt. Kenya region.

Attacks On Parties

According to the statement, no meeting g had been held to grant Gachagua such authority over them or rather over Mt. Kenya region.
