How to Set Up an Amnesty Payment Plan in iTax

Taxpayers with outstanding tax arrears can now spread their payments through the Kenya Revenue Authority’s (KRA) 2026 Amnesty Programme, allowing them to settle principal tax in installments.

According to KRA, the payment plan is available through the iTax platform and is designed for taxpayers who are unable to clear their outstanding principal tax in one payment.

Under the Tax Amnesty programme, taxpayers who fully settle their principal tax by December 31, 2026 can benefit from the automatic waiver of eligible penalties and interest once their payment is completed.

To set up am Amnesty plan on iTax one needs to log into the portal using their KRA PIN and password then select payments before they choose apply payment plan.

How To Set Up

This option allows taxpayers to put in place a structured instalment plan for the eligible tax periods.

The next step in the process is to select the tax periods covered in the amnesty programme, and after choosing the relevant periods, taxpayers should return to the payments menu and select payment registration to generate a payment request.

During payment registration, users are required to select the appropriate Tax Head, Tax Sub-Head, and the corresponding tax period.

They should then confirm the payment amount, ensuring the amount reflects the principal tax only, before submitting the request and generating a payment slip.

Payment In Installments

Additionally, the amnesty payment plan allows taxpayers to pay in up to six instalments, provided the full principal tax is cleared before the programme’s deadline.

Once the principal amount has been fully paid, iTax automatically applies the eligible waiver of penalties and interest and issues a Tax Amnesty Certificate.

This programme forms part of KRA’s efforts to encourage tax compliance by giving eligible taxpayers an opportunity to rectify their tax records without the additional burden of accumulated penalties and interest, so long as they meet the conditions set out under the amnesty framework.
