“You Are Not My Relative,” Murkomen’s Wife Hits Back at Gachagua

Gladys Wanjiru, the wife of Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen, has responded to calls by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for her husband to return her to the Kikuyu community.

Speaking during the burial of his maternal aunt, Mama Sokomo Chemitei Kojepkosgei, on Thursday, September 3, Murkomen told Gachagua that his wife is going nowhere.

He said this while introducing Wanjiru to address the mourners and thanked her for being on his side.

“I have my wife, who was my classmate. I want to inform you, Gachagua to know that she is not going anywhere, and I thank her for always standing by all of us,” Murkomen said. 

Gladys Wanjiru Asks Gachagua to Stop Defending Her

Wanjiru took the opportunity to respond to remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that they would come for her.

Mrs. Kipchumba said she had never asked political leaders to defend her, adding that she would not move an inch.

Wanjiru said she had remained where she was despite the remarks and questioned why her unknown ‘relatives’ speak on her behalf.

“I am the one whom they have been saying they will come for. I have not gone anywhere, and I have not asked anyone to defend me, so I don’t know where I got a relative who wants to speak on my behalf,” she said.

Deep Roots

Wanjiru went on to give a metaphorical explanation of her place in the Kipchumba family.

She explained that her roots in the family had grown deeper over time, making it difficult for anyone to uproot her.

“I have not gone anywhere. The roots have gone deeper; even uprooting is difficult, and those who brought it are different from the one who is here now. Right now, he is being taken care of,” Wanjiru added.
