DCI Warns Mombasa Showgoers Against Touching Suspicious Objects

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has warned members of the public attending the ongoing Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Mombasa International Show against touching or approaching suspicious objects.

The warning comes as the DCI invites showgoers at the Jomo Kenyatta Showground in Mkomani to visit its Bomb and Hazardous Material Disposal Unit (BHMDU) at the National Police Service Stand during the Mombasa International Show.

“Do not touch, move, approach or attempt to inspect a suspicious object. Keep a safe distance and warn others to stay away,” the DCI said.

Through the initiative, BHMDU officers are educating visitors on how to identify suspicious objects and respond safely to potential threats.

DCI Sensitizes Mombasa International Show Attendees on Suspicious Objects

At the Mombasa International Show, the experts are demonstrating how members of the public can recognize suspicious objects and take appropriate safety measures without putting themselves or others at risk.

In addition, the sensitization covers explosives, Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), bombs and other hazardous materials that could endanger the public.

DCI Highlights Explosive and Terrorism-Related Threats

The DCI is also raising awareness about threats associated with Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents and terrorism at the Mombasa Show.

Meanwhile, officers are explaining what members of the public should do and avoid when they encounter a suspicious object.

As a result, the agency has urged visitors to move away from suspicious objects, warn others to stay clear and allow authorities to handle the situation.

DCI Provides Channels for Reporting Suspicious Objects

For those attending the Mombasa International Show, the DCI has urged the public to report suspicious objects immediately at the nearest police station or anonymously through FichuaKwaDCI.

“Report immediately at the nearest police station or anonymously through FichuaKwaDCI. Call 0800 722 203 (Toll-free) or WhatsApp at 0709 570 000 or Police emergency hotlines: 999, 112 or 911,” the DCI said.

Furthermore, the agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, preventing crime and promoting a safe and secure environment for all.

The DCI has also encouraged visitors to engage with officers at the National Police Service Stand and learn more about responding safely to potentially hazardous objects.
