Centum Appoints Acting CEO as James Mworia Steps Down

The Board of Directors of Centum Investment Company PLC has announced that Dr. James Mworia will step down from his role as Group Chief Executive Officer & Managing Director.
In a statement, the board said Mworia is transitioning to become the founding Chief Executive Officer of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF).
The board has appointed Thomas Omondi-Achola as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer to ensure operational continuity.
Omondi is currently the Group Chief Operating Officer and Partner for Portfolio Operations at Centum Capital Partners.
The appointment is effective immediately and is in line with the Group’s corporate succession plan to ensure strategic momentum and operational continuity.
“To ensure complete strategic momentum and operational continuity, the Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Thomas Omondi-Achola as the Acting Group Chief Executive Officer,” reads part of the statements
“The appointment as Acting Group CEO is effective immediately and is in line with the Group’s corporate succession plan.”
Career of Centum Acting CEO
Omondi brings over 25 years of senior executive leadership and strategic transformation experience.
As Centum’s Group COO and Partner for Portfolio Operations since 2018, he has overseen strategy development, turnarounds, value creation, and capital exits across more than 15 investee companies.

Notably, Omondi served as Chief Transformation Officer for Sidian Bank, driving its turnaround to a USD 4 million profit position within 18 months, leading to its recent successful exit. He currently serves on several boards, including Longhorn Publishers PLC, Nabo Capital, Jafari Credit, Tribus Solutions Group, Tier Data, and Greenblade Growers.
Before joining Centum, Omondi spent over 13 years at Kenya Airways in key executive positions, including Chief Transformation Officer, Director of Strategy & Performance Management, Acting Chief Commercial Officer, General Manager of Jambojet, Head of Operations Control, Head of HR Business Partners, and Head of IT Development.

Thomas Omondi-Achola Education
He holds a BSc in Mathematics and an MBA in Finance from the University of Nairobi, and an MBA in General Management from IESE Business School (Spain).
He has attended several executive development programs, including programs at the University of London, the University of Pretoria, Rolls-Royce, and General Electric. He is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and a RIKA Fellow.
