President Samia Suluhu’s Husband Dies

Hafidh Ameir, the husband of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, has passed away.
Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi made the announcement on Monday, September 7, 2026.
Ndejembi said Mr.Ameir died at around 8 a.m. at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar while receiving treatment for a heart condition.
“Fellow citizens, it is with great sadness that I inform you of the death of Honourable Hafidh Ameir Hassan, husband of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Honourable Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan. He passed away today, September 7, 2026, at around 8:00 am at Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar, where he was receiving treatment for heart disease,” Ndejembi said.
The Vice President extended his condolences to the First Family and announced that funeral arrangements were already underway.
“I extend my condolences to the Honourable President, his family, relatives and friends, and all Tanzanians on this loss. Funeral arrangements are currently being made in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar,” the VP said.
Ruto Mourns With Tanzania
President William Ruto has sent his condolences to President Samia Suluhu Hassan, her children, family, and the people of Tanzania following the loss.
“On behalf of the Government and people of Kenya, the First Lady, my family and on my own behalf, I convey our heartfelt condolences to President Samia, her family and the people of Tanzania. President Samia has lost a lifelong companion, her children a beloved father, and Tanzania a distinguished son,” Ruto said.

Ruto assured Tanzania that Kenya stands with the country and its people as they mourn the loss, while praying for comfort and strength for President Samia and her family.
“Kenya stands with our Tanzanian brothers and sisters in this moment of grief. May Almighty God comfort President Samia and her family, give them strength through this difficult time, and grant Hafidh Ameir Hassan eternal rest,” he added.
