UDA Senator Announces Death of Last-Born Daughter

Senator of Tana River County Danston Mungatana has announced the death of his youngest daughter, who died due to an illness on September 13 2026.

Senator Danston announced the death of his 8-year-old daughter, who he says died while undergoing treatment at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital in Muthaiga.

“It is with profound sorrow that the family of Hon. Senator Dr. Danson Mungatana and his wife, Hon. Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Deputy Government Spokesperson, announce the passing of their last-born daughter, Amal Mghoi Mungatana,” Danston said.

According to her family, she was born in 2018 and is said to have battled health challenges from an early age, according to her family.

Treatment Overseas

Her parents said they sought treatment for her both in Kenya and overseas in an effort to manage her condition over the years.

Tana River Senator Danson Mungatana and his wife, Mwanaisha Chidzuga, the Deputy Government Spokesperson, jointly announced the devastating news of their daughter’s passing.

The family has since gathered at their home in Ngao Village, Tana River County, where they are mourning the loss of their daughter.

Burial preparations are ongoing ahead of her funeral, which is set for Friday, September 18.

Condolence Messages

Since the announcement, leaders and members of the public have continued sending messages of condolence to the grieving family.

They have appealed for privacy and prayers as they come to terms with the loss while making final arrangements for her burial, they will announce plans once arrangements are complete.

The tragedy comes just days after Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah announced the death of his sister, who died after a prolonged illness. He confirmed her passing on September 1 and remembered her as a respected educator.

The loss has added to a series of recent bereavements involving Kenyan leaders, with many Kenyans continuing to express solidarity with the Mungatana family during this difficult time.
