Kaluma Boy Returns to Picking Tea Leaves Months After Kenyans Raised Millions

Months after Kenyans rallied behind TikTok content creator Kaluma Boy, whose real name is Vincent Kaluma, to support his family, he has gone back to picking tea leaves.

The young content creator recently shared videos showing himself back in the tea fields in Othaya, Nyeri County, sparking fresh conversations online about the matter.

Kaluma first captured the country’s attention through emotional TikTok videos documenting his daily struggle of caring for his father, who suffered a severe stroke in August 2024.

His father spent months in hospital, including three months in a coma, before returning home, where he has continued to require medication, physiotherapy and constant care.

Kenyans Donations

In addition, his story touched thousands of Kenyans, prompting an extraordinary online fundraising campaign that later led many people to attend a massive gathering at his rural home.

Supporters travelled from different parts of the country with cash donations, food supplies, household items and other essentials to help ease the family’s burden.

However, Kaluma’s latest videos suggest that the family’s responsibilities did not end after the fundraiser, as his father is still in physiotherapy and they still need money.

His return to tea picking has drawn mixed reactions across social media. While some users expressed surprise after the public fundraising effort, others praised his determination, noting that ongoing medical care often requires sustained financial support beyond one-time donations.
