Family Seeks Ksh1 Million to Bring Home Kenyan Woman Who Died in Qatar

A family in Kiamuriuki, Chuka, is appealing for help to raise Ksh 1 million to repatriate the body of Virginia Gacheri, who died in Qatar on September 4, 2026.

According to reports, Gacheri travelled to Qatar in 2022 in search of employment and supported her family in Kenya through her work.

However, her parents said her time in the Gulf country later became difficult after she allegedly experienced mistreatment at a household where she worked.

“Virginia had been working in Qatar since 2022, supporting her family back home. According to her parents, she later fled a household where she was working after allegedly experiencing mistreatment, including claims of acid exposure to her hands and being denied adequate food.”

Family Speaks on Gacheri’s Struggles While in Qatar

According to her parents, Virginia Gacheri eventually fled the household after allegedly being subjected to poor treatment.

The family claims she suffered acid exposure to her hands and was denied adequate food while working there.

In addition, her family said that after her employment contract expired, Gacheri reportedly faced further difficulties as she tried to secure another job.

They said she also faced challenges obtaining the documents required to continue working in Qatar.

“Following the expiry of her contract, Virginia reportedly struggled to secure another job and faced challenges obtaining the necessary documents.”

The family said they received news of Gacheri’s death on September 4, noting that Virginia Gacheri collapsed moments after leaving a washroom at a facility where she and other women were staying while looking for employment opportunities.

She reportedly died shortly afterwards. The family did not give further details on the circumstances surrounding her death.

Virginia Gacheri Leaves Children Behind

Following her death, Gacheri has left behind children who were relying on her support, including a son who is studying at Meru National Polytechnic and a daughter who is currently in Grade Four.

Therefore, the family is now working to raise the funds needed to bring her body back to Kenya so that she can be laid to rest.

The family has appealed to well-wishers, leaders, and other people of goodwill to contribute towards the Ksh1 million required to repatriate Gacheri’s body from Qatar.
