Mama Ida Odinga Unveils Raila Anniversary Committee Including Ruto’s Advisors

Mama Ida Odinga has unveiled the committee that will coordinate activities that mark the first anniversary of the death of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

In a statement dated September 16, Ida Odinga announced that the committee will be chaired by political analyst Prof. Adams Oloo and will oversee commemorative activities planned for the week of October 15.

The committee brings together several prominent figures, including Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo and Joe Ager, alongside Prof. Oloo, who has previously served as a close political advisor to the late Raila.

Ida said the committee had been tasked with ensuring that the commemorations are well coordinated and inclusive.

Ruto’s Advisors

President Ruto’s advisors in the anniversary committee of the late Raila are Adams Oloo and Joe Ager.

According to the family, the anniversary is intended to give Kenyans an opportunity to remember, mourn and celebrate Raila Odinga’s life, particularly for supporters who were unable to bid him farewell in the manner they would have wished following his death in October 2025.

Additionally, the family described Raila as a leader whose legacy extended beyond political institutions, saying the commemorations are meant to honour the people whose lives he touched throughout his decades in public service.

It further invited individuals, organisations and supporters wishing to organise or participate in anniversary activities to work through the committee to ensure proper coordination and inclusivity.

Preparations For The Anniversary

This announcement comes as preparations gather pace for what is expected to be a series of nationwide remembrance events honouring the former Prime Minister.

The late Raila served as Kenya’s second Prime Minister between 2008 and 2013 and remained one of the country’s most influential political figures until his death.

The family said a full programme of events will be released by the committee in the coming days, with activities expected to be held during the week of October 15 to allow Kenyans from different parts of the country to participate in the remembrance events.
