Moi University Students Put on Notice Over Mini Skirts, Crocs and Ripped Jeans

Moi University has issued a new dress code directive, warning students against wearing what it describes as indecent or inappropriate clothing on campus.

The directive was issued by the Dean of Students’ Office in an internal memo dated September 22, 2026. The university said the rules are meant to ensure students dress in a decent and appropriate manner while on campus.

According to the memo, students are expected to dress in “modest and appropriate attire” while at the university.

The university has banned several types of clothing, including micro or mini skirts, skin-tight trousers, ragged, torn or ripped jeans, and jumbo-cut blouses and T-shirts.

It has also listed low-cut blouses and dresses, micro shorts and transparent dresses among clothing that students should not wear.

The memo further prohibits outfits that expose bra straps or the chest, as well as sleeveless T-shirts and T-shirts carrying obscene writings. Students have also been warned against wearing sagging trousers.

Moi University Bans Slippers and Crocs

The university has extended the dress code to footwear, warning students against wearing slippers, Crocs and plastic shoes on campus.

“Slippers, crocs and all plastic shoes are NOT official wear and should not be worn in the University,” the memo states.

The university said students should ensure their dressing meets the institution’s requirements while on campus.

Students Warned of Disciplinary Action

The Dean of Students’ Office warned that students who fail to follow the dress code could face disciplinary action.

“All students should desist from inappropriate dressing while at the University as this may result in disciplinary action,” the memo states.

The university also directed its staff to enforce the dress code.

“This is therefore to request all Students to dress decently and Staff are requested NOT to serve Students who are dressed indecently,” the memo added.

Bomet University Issues Similar Warning

The directive comes as Bomet University also moves to enforce stricter dress code and grooming standards among students. In an internal memo dated September 2, 2026, the university banned clothing that exposes the belly, waistline, undergarments or cleavage.

The institution also prohibited casual footwear such as Crocs, clogs and bathroom slippers on campus.

Students were warned against unkempt hair and were expected to maintain an appropriate standard of personal cleanliness while on campus.

Non-Compliance Could Affect Access

Bomet University warned that students who fail to follow the new guidelines could face restrictions on accessing university services.

“Those found in breach of the rules risk being denied access to lectures, university services and other campus facilities.”
