“Stop Playing Cat and Mouse With Us,” Raila’s Brother Lectures Uhuru Over 2022 Election Remarks

Raila’s younger brother, Omondo Oginga, has criticised former President Uhuru Kenyatta over his remarks about the 2022 General Election.

Omondo said Kenyatta should stop revisiting the outcome of an election held years ago, arguing that his comments were not useful to the Odinga family or Raila’s supporters.

“Stop playing cat and mouse with us. We are not happy with whatever happened,” Omondo said.

He questioned why Kenyatta was speaking about the 2022 election now, noting that the former President was in power at the time and had authority to act.

“He had the power, he was in power, he had all the authority and he didn’t use it well,” Omondo said.

Raila’s Brother Omondo Asks Uhuru to Let Raila Rest

Omondo further argued that there was no need to reopen discussions about the previous election, describing the matter as something that had already passed.

“There’s no need for him now to respond about the last elections. It is not useful to us. It is something that is bygone,” he said.

He also asked Kenyatta to give the Odinga family and Raila’s supporters a break following the former Prime Minister’s death.

“Raila is now resting, so let him give us a break,” Omondo said.

Omondo said the comments had not gone down well with the family or those who supported Raila.

“We are not happy as a family, and as Raila supporters,” he said.

Uhuru Says Raila Won 2022 Election

Kenyatta made the remarks during a Jubilee Party National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Nairobi, where he said he remained convinced that Raila won the 2022 presidential election.

“Tulifanya kila kitu kumsaidia Baba awe Rais wa Jamhuri yetu ya Kenya. Na kura akapata, na mimi mpaka wa leo najua ya kwamba yeye ndiye alishinda hiyo kura. Tunajua vile mambo ilienda, na hatutaki iende hivyo tena,” Kenyatta said.

He said he knew how the events surrounding the election unfolded and did not want a similar situation to happen again.

Kenyatta also questioned how the Azimio la Umoja–One Kenya Coalition Party could have secured a majority of elective seats in the National Assembly and Senate while losing the presidency.

“How can you say you won yet we have most Members of Parliament, Senators, and Governors? How could you say we lost? We know how things went down,” he said.

The former President also responded to criticism over his role in the 2022 campaign, saying he had supported Raila’s presidential bid.

“I am shocked to hear people saying that we did not help Baba, saying that Uhuru Kenyatta did not win. I was not the one at the ballot; I was just Raila’s handyman,” he said.
