TECNO Bags Two Major Awards: Here’s What It Means for Kenyan Buyers

TECNO has won two Global Product Technology Innovation Gold Awards at IFA 2026, with the recognition highlighting the company’s latest innovations in smartphones and gaming hardware while offering a glimpse of technologies that could influence future devices available in Kenya.

The company received the awards for its TECNO Modular Phone and the Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS (MEGA MINI G1 Pro) during the IFA 2026 consumer electronics exhibition.

The awards were established in 2014 by IDG, IFA and the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DIHK) to recognize products that advance innovation in consumer electronics through technology and design.

Additionally, the TECNO Modular Phone earned the Ultra Slim Magnetic Modular Technology Innovation Gold Award for its modular design, while the Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS received the Miniaturized Gaming PC Technology Innovation Gold Award for combining high-performance gaming hardware with a compact design.

Slim Smartphone

This Modular Phone stands out for its 4.9mm profile, which TECNO says makes it the world’s slimmest modular smartphone.

It uses the company’s proprietary Modular Magnetic Interconnection Technology, allowing users to attach different magnetic modules through a system of magnets and pogo-pin connectors.

The phone is designed with a portless unibody construction and is expected to enter mass production in the future.

According to TECNO, the modular ecosystem is intended to support changing user needs while addressing the increasing computing demands of AI-powered smartphones without significantly increasing device size.

Furthermore, this concept has also attracted international recognition beyond IFA, with outlets including CNET, Android Authority, Yanko Design and The Verge highlighting the device during Mobile World Congress 2026.

AI Workloads

Meanwhile, the Tonino Lamborghini TECNO TAURUS targets gaming and AI-intensive workloads in a much smaller form factor than conventional desktop computers.

With a chassis measuring about 6.36 litres, the mini PC features a transparent vertical design inspired by Italian automotive styling.

It is powered by an Intel Core i9-13900HK processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060 graphics card, supported by a water-cooling system designed to maintain performance under heavy workloads.

Moreover, this device also includes 15 connectivity ports, including USB4, OCuLink and Wi-Fi 6E.

For Kenyan consumers, the awards do not necessarily signal immediate availability of these specific products.

However, TECNO has previously introduced design and camera innovations from its flagship concepts into mainstream series such as Camon, Spark and POVA, making the latest announcements an indication of technologies that could appear in future devices sold in the local market.

TECNO also showcased other concept products at IFA 2026, including the Next Gen Bezelless Concept Phone with a 0mm screen bezel and the MEGABOOK T15 360 Pro convertible laptop, although the company has not announced retail plans for those devices
