“I’m Tired”: TikToker Rono Recalls Mother’s Heartbreaking Final Moments

TikToker and digital creator Bill Rono has recounted the heartbreaking final moments with his late mother, Rebecca Chebet Maru, revealing how the family rushed her to hospital after she developed breathing difficulties.

Speaking during the burial ceremony on Friday, October 10, at AIC Milimani, Rono described the confusion and desperation that followed his mother’s sudden medical emergency as family members tried to get her medical attention.

He also recalled a moment during the journey to the hospital when his mother told him she was tired, words he said he has never forgotten.

Bill Rono’s Mother Developed Breathing Difficulties at Home

According to Rono, his father had travelled at around 5 a.m., leaving him, his brother Brandon, sister, and Cheru cousin at home together with their mother.

His cousin, who had been working a night shift, returned home in the morning and went to sleep, while his sister left for work. Rono said he had also gone to bed late and woke up later to find his mother having breakfast with other family members.

He recalled that everything appeared normal before his mother went to take a shower.

However, shortly after leaving the bathroom, she reportedly began experiencing breathing difficulties and called for assistance.

Rono said Brandon responded first, then called him for help. After finding his mother struggling, he contacted Cheru to help prepare her for a hospital visit.

The Tiktoker described being confused and unsure of what to do as his mother’s condition deteriorated. He recalled turning to ChatGPT for guidance, typing, “What should I do?” but said he had not specified the nature of the emergency.

He later called an Uber to transport his mother, with family members helping as they prepared to leave the house.

According to Rono, his mother insisted that they take her to hospital despite the family’s efforts to determine where she could receive medical assistance.

The family initially took her to a medical facility, where doctors attempted to explain her condition. However, they later left and proceeded to another hospital after reportedly being informed that she needed oxygen. They rushed towards Metropolitan Hospital, hoping to get her the assistance she needed.

Rono Recalls Mother’s Final Words During Hospital Rush

One of the most emotional moments in Rono’s account was his recollection of what happened while they were travelling to Metropolitan Hospital.

He said his mother was struggling to breathe as he held her during the journey. Rono recalled that she told him she was tired, repeating the words as the family tried to reassure her that they were almost at the hospital.

The TikToker said the moment reminded him of scenes in films where people speak their final words, adding that he had never imagined experiencing such a situation in real life.

Rono also described becoming concerned when he noticed changes in his mother’s appearance and struggled to establish whether she was still responsive.

He said he did not immediately tell the other family members what he had noticed as they continued towards the hospital.

Upon arrival, medical personnel attended to his mother, but she could not be saved.

Furthermore, Rono said that while they were trying to help her breathe, his mother asked for drinking water and Brandon got her the water but she was unable to drink.

He revealed that he had decided to keep the water bottle with the water inside it for the rest of his life as he had believed his mother might recover after receiving the water.

Therefore, according to Rono , the bottle has since become a painful reminder of the events surrounding her final moments.

Beyond recounting the circumstances surrounding his mother’s final moments, Rono expressed gratitude to the people who have supported his family since her death.

He said the period had been difficult, particularly because he did not consider his mother to be someone who frequently suffered from illnesses.

Rono thanked those who had reached out, noting that even people who might consider their visits ordinary had made a significant difference to the grieving family.
