The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Administration Police Service (APS), Gilbert Masengeli, on Friday, October 31, 2025, undertook a working visit to the Multi-Agency Operation Amani Boni (OAB) Headquarters at the Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Manda Bay.

In a statement, KDF said the visit aimed at evaluating the performance, coordination, and welfare of the multi-agency security personnel deployed under OAB in Lamu County.

Upon arrival, Masengeli, accompanied by the Commander, Special Operations Forces Command (SOFC), Brigadier John Njeru, paid a courtesy call on the Commander Kenya Navy Base (KNB) Manda Bay, Brigadier Lazarus Wafula.

Brigadier Wafula commended the consolidated efforts of the multi-agency security teams operating under Operation Amani Boni, noting that their enhanced coordination, vigilance, and professionalism have been instrumental in restoring peace and stability across Lamu County and its environs.

U.S Major Statement

In his remarks, the United States Defence Attaché, Major Gregory Scott, commended the strong and enduring partnership between Kenya and the United States.

He observed that the collaboration continues to enhance regional security and counter-terrorism capabilities, highlighting the importance of joint initiatives in training, intelligence sharing, and logistical support that have significantly strengthened the operational capacity of both nations.

Masengeli Message to Boni Troops

In his address to troops, Masengeli commended the joint security forces for their dedication, discipline, and teamwork.

He further reaffirmed the National Police Service leadership’s unwavering commitment to providing the necessary support to all deployed personnel and to strengthening inter-agency cooperation in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

“The unwavering dedication and selfless sacrifice of our multi-agency security teams embody the highest ideals of service to the nation. Their courage in the face of adversity continues to inspire confidence and pride. The government remains resolute in ensuring they receive every form of support necessary to sustain peace, safeguard our people, and secure lasting stability across this region,” he affirmed.

During the visit, Commander SOFC Brigadier Njeru commended the troops for their resilience, discipline, and courage under demanding conditions. He noted that their vigilance and inter-agency cooperation have been vital to the success of Operation Amani Boni, reaffirming the continued commitment of security forces to maintain peace and secure the Boni enclave and its surrounding.

The visit provided the delegation with an opportunity to engage with officers on the ground and assess the prevailing security situation in Lamu County, with particular focus on the progress of counter-terrorism operations within the Boni Forest.

Operation Amani Boni continues to play a pivotal role in restoring security, reopening previously inaccessible areas, and facilitating the safe return of displaced residents, efforts that are contributing to the restoration of normalcy and the promotion of socio-economic development in the region.
