Government Invites Applications for Jobs and Economic Empowerment Projects

Share

The Government of Kenya, through the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) and the State Department for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, has announced a call for applications under the Kenya Jobs and Economic Transformation (KJET) project.

The initiative, which runs from 2024 to 2029, is funded by the World Bank and seeks to empower cooperatives, associations, and other cluster-based enterprises across the country.

According to MSEA, the project’s development objective is to increase private sector investment, access to markets, and sustainable finance for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The program aims to boost productivity, enhance innovation, and promote job creation, aligning with the government’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Enhancing Cluster Competitiveness

Under Component 2: Enhancing Cluster Competitiveness, eligible organizations operating within selected value chains are encouraged to apply.

The project will provide tailored Business Development Services (BDS) training to enhance productivity and growth.

Additionally, selected beneficiaries will receive co-investment support to help them acquire productive assets that strengthen their operations and market reach.

MSEA emphasized that the project focuses on creating an enabling environment for MSMEs to scale up and compete effectively in both local and international markets.

Eligibility Criteria and Target Sectors

To qualify, applicants must be registered cooperatives, associations, or cluster-based entities operating in one of the following ten value chains; edible oils, textiles, construction materials, dairy, leather, tea, coffee, rice, blue economy, and minerals.

Organizations must also meet specific requirements, including:

  • Having operated for over two years.
  • Being actively engaged in value addition.
  • Possessing products currently in the market.

While the project prioritizes the listed sectors, MSEA noted that exceptional MSME clusters in other industries may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on their strategic alignment and potential impact.

Application Process and Deadline

Interested organizations are urged to apply before the deadline of 31st December 2025 by visiting the official project website at https://kjet.msea.go.ke/ or scanning the provided QR code.

MSEA clarified that submission of an application does not guarantee selection, as all applications will undergo rigorous review and verification to confirm eligibility and operational capacity.

Only genuine and operational clusters aligned with the project’s objectives will be considered.

For further inquiries, applicants can reach out via email at kjetenquiries@msea.go.ke or call +254 (0) 770 666 000.

The authority urged MSMEs not to miss the opportunity to “transform and scale their impact”, as the initiative is designed to propel Kenya’s economic transformation through inclusive job creation and sustainable enterprise growth.
