Centum Investment Company Appoints Mary Wangari Wamae as Independent Non-Executive Director

Centum Investment Company Plc has appointed Mary Wangari Wamae as an Independent Non-Executive Director, filling a casual vacancy on its Board.

The company is taking this step to strengthen governance and sharpen its long-term strategic direction.

On July 30, Centum informed shareholders and the public of the change, emphasizing its continued focus on strong leadership and effective oversight.

“The Board of Directors of Centum Investment Company Plc. (the “Company”) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Mary Wangari Wamae as an Independent Non-Executive Director, to fill a casual vacancy in the Company,” Centum stated.

Extensive Experience in Financial Services at Centum Investment Company

Wamae brings more than 35 years of experience in law, strategy, governance and leadership in the financial services sector.

She is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a Certified Public Secretary (Kenya).

Notably, she joins the Board after retiring from Equity Group Holdings PLC in June 2024, where she served for 20 years.

During her tenure at Equity, she rose to Group Executive Director in charge of Subsidiary Oversight.

Before that, she worked as Director of Strategy and Company Secretary.

In addition, she held board roles across banking subsidiaries in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as in non-banking units.

Through these roles, she built extensive regional and institutional experience.

Leadership Roles and Academic Background

Beyond her corporate career, Wamae founded and now leads TVG Consulting and Leadership Group Limited as Chief Executive Officer.

At the same time, she serves on the board of the Strathmore University Foundation, further contributing to leadership development and education.

Academically, she holds a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Nairobi and a master’s degree in Leadership, Innovation and Change from York St John University.

Moreover, she has completed Advanced Management Programmes at Harvard Business School and IESE Business School, strengthening her expertise in executive leadership.

Given this background, the Board expressed confidence in her ability to support governance and guide the company’s future direction.

“The Board warmly welcomes Mrs. Wamae and looks forward to the significant value she will bring to the Group’s governance and long-term strategic direction,” the board added.
