Veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka ordered security officers to remove his niece, former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba, from his 50th media anniversary celebration held on October 10, after she allegedly disrupted the event by chanting “Wantam”.
In a video circulating online, Machoka is heard asking security officers to remove the woman from the stage, insisting that he would not allow anyone to disrupt his event.
“Please, security, remove this girl from here,” Machoka said before thanking the officers.
“You cannot screw up my job. Please, security, remove this girl from here. Out!” he added.
Machoka then appeared to warn Orwoba against repeating the incident when she attended an event with him in the future.
“Next time, when you are with your uncle, you will know that you have no say here. You will obey,” he said.
The incident drew reactions online, with some social media users supporting Machoka’s decision to have her removed while others commented on Orwoba’s political activities.

The incident occurred on Saturday, October 10, 2026, during Machoka’s celebration marking five decades in the media industry.
The event, dubbed the Machoka @50 Grand Concert, took place at Ulinzi Sports Complex in Nairobi and brought together guests, political leaders and musicians to celebrate the veteran broadcaster’s contribution to Kenyan media and African music.
Machoka, popularly known as Uncle Fred, built his career through radio and television programmes, including the popular Roga Roga show, which has helped promote rhumba music among Kenyan audiences.
The celebration featured performances by several musicians, including Congolese rhumba star Koffi Olomide, Mbilia Bel, Cameroon’s Sam Fan Thomas and Kenyan band Them Mushrooms.
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna also attended the event and received cheers from the crowd as he arrived.
The celebration was organised to honour Machoka’s 50-year broadcasting career, which began in the 1970s.

Kenyans React to the Incident
The video sparked debate on social media, with some users arguing that Machoka was justified in defending his event, while others focused on Orwoba’s insistence on chanting the political slogan.
A user identified as Sankei recalled a previous controversy involving Orwoba and online activist Edgar, claiming that Edgar was arrested and detained at Kamukunji Police Station over defamation allegations following a complaint by Orwoba.
Sankei also claimed that Kenyans responded by sending messages to Orwoba and her family members, including veteran broadcaster Fred Obachi Machoka, who allegedly received so many messages that he had to switch off his phone.
Sankei further argued that the anniversary celebration was not the right occasion for political slogans and described Machoka as having stepped in like a father figure.
Another user, Waswa, supported Machoka’s response, writing,“Yes, sometimes you need to be yourself and state your ground. She deserved it.”
Shaniz commented,“And she really insisted one term 😂😂.”
User Josh criticised Orwoba’s alleged actions at the event, claiming that Machoka had made it clear that the celebration would not be used for political activities.
“Gloria Orwoba was a disappointment yesterday. Machoka was very categorical that there won’t be politicking but juu kanakuanga kaspecio akaenda kuchant wantam,” Josh wrote.
Josh further claimed that Orwoba was removed from the stage and that Machoka had to direct security officers to eject her.
The user also mentioned Sifuna’s attendance, arguing that the senator did not engage in political chanting during the celebration.
