JKUAT Student and TikTok Creator Derrick Omollo Dies in Alleged Juja Robbery Attack

JKUAT student and TikTok content creator Derrick Omollo has reportedly died in Juja following an alleged robbery attack on Tuesday night.

According to reports, Omollo, who was known for creating content on TikTok, was attacked by armed men who were allegedly targeting his phone while he was walking with a friend towards their hostels.

TikToker Reportedly Fell Into Quarry

Following the attack, the two reportedly fled in different directions as the attackers pursued them. However, two of the attackers are said to have followed Omollo as he attempted to escape.

Reports state that Omollo fell into a quarry while fleeing from the alleged attackers and landed head-first on a rock, sustaining fatal injuries.

He was subsequently reportedly found dead in the area.

However, the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the identities of those responsible, had not been independently established in the information available at the time of publication.

Who Was Derrick Omollo?

Derrick Omollo was a popular Kenyan TikTok content creator and a student at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) in Juja.

He operated his TikTok account under the handle @derrick.omollo, where he built a following of more than 76,000 followers and accumulated millions of likes through short-form comedy content centred on campus life.

The content creator was particularly popular among JKUAT students, commonly referred to as “JKUAT comrades”, for his relatable comedy skits depicting everyday university experiences.

His videos touched on a range of campus experiences, including freshers’ week, examination struggles, friendships and relationship heartbreaks.

Through his fast-paced and locally focused humour, Omollo’s TikTok presence grew significantly, with his main TikTok page reportedly getting more than 4.4 million likes.

Security Concerns in Juja

Omollo’s reported death comes amid previous security concerns raised by residents in parts of Juja.

A month before his attack,  residents had raised concerns over a group of suspected robbers targeting pedestrians along Kenyatta Road towards Gatundu, in an area described as being a short distance from Kay’s Police Station and the nearby Recce Camp.

This comes after a woman was attacked in broad daylight and robbed of her mobile phone and other belongings, and the suspects fled into nearby thickets at the JKUAT farm.

As a result, residents called on security agencies in the Juja Sub-division to increase patrols and take action to improve security in the area.
