Govt Breaks Silence on US Plans to Build an Ebola Facility in Kenya

The Government of Kenya has addressed growing public discussion on US plans for an Ebola facility in Kenya. It has reaffirmed its commitment to global health security and national safety.
In a press release issued on May 27, 2026, the Ministry of Health highlighted Kenya’s role in global disease preparedness.
It emphasized that all cooperation on Ebola must follow national laws and safety rules.
“Kenya welcomes partnerships that strengthen global health security and reaffirm our shared commitment to protecting lives through coordinated, science-based action,” the press release said.
Furthermore, the government noted that Kenya has built strong systems through surveillance and emergency preparedness.
The ministry also pointed to Kenya’s experience in Ebola response, including the West Africa Ebola outbreak from 2014 to 2016.

In addition, the Ministry said Kenya continues to strengthen Ebola preparedness across the country.
“Kenya has activated its national Incident Management System, intensified surveillance at Points of Entry, designated laboratories for testing and strengthened coordination mechanisms at national and county levels,” the press release stated.
Meanwhile, authorities confirmed that more than 55,000 travellers have passed through screening at entry points.
They also reported that health teams tested ten suspected cases, all of which returned negative results.
At the same time, the government stressed that Ebola-related cooperation will follow strict legal and safety frameworks. It also prioritized protection of citizens and health workers.
“Any arrangements regarding international health cooperation will be guided by Kenya’s national laws, public health regulations, biosafety and biosecurity standards, and the overriding responsibility of Government to safeguard the health and welfare of the people of Kenya,” the press release read.

Kenya Reaffirms Global Partnerships and Readiness
On international cooperation, Kenya reaffirmed its partnership with the United States and other global allies.
It said these partnerships have strengthened Ebola response systems and health infrastructure.
Additionally, the Ministry assured the public of continued vigilance and transparency. It committed to sustained monitoring and clear communication.
“Kenya is ready. Kenya is capable. Kenya will continue to act responsibly in safeguarding both national and global health security,” the press release said.
