‘Man-Eater?’ Man Arrested for Biting People at Night in Ruiru

The man linked to the “Ruiru Vampire” reports has reportedly been arrested in Gikoe Village, Murang’a County, after allegedly terrorising residents with random biting attacks.
According to reports, residents apprehended the suspect after raising concerns over a series of night attacks in which pedestrians were allegedly robbed and bitten.
An angry mob also reportedly assaulted him before police took him into custody.
The reported arrest follows days of fear and anxiety among residents of Gitothua in Ruiru, Kiambu County, after reports emerged of an unidentified man attacking pedestrians at night.
Residents said the incidents disrupted their daily routines, forcing many people to avoid unnecessary movements after sunset due to fears of encountering the suspect.
Esther Njeri, a resident and mother, said the attacks had affected families and businesses in the area.
“People are no longer feeling safe. There is fear all the time. Even women who run businesses are closing early. A child cannot walk alone, and you cannot send a child to the shop because you fear they might meet this person,” Njeri said.

“Ruiru Vampire” Victim Recounts Night Attack
Meanwhile, Daniel Ndegwa, the latest reported victim, said the suspect attacked him on July 11, 2026, at around 9:00 pm while he walked to a nearby shopping centre.
Ndegwa said the attacker demanded his mobile phone before a struggle broke out but during the confrontation, the suspect allegedly bit his finger and injured his left hand.
The attacker also reportedly bit Ndegwa’s friend who was with him.
“When we met him, he swung his hand towards my left hand, and that is when he bit my finger. After we finished struggling, he also bit the friend who was with me,” Ndegwa said.
In another reported incident, a victim allegedly suffered severe facial injuries after the suspect bit off part of his cheek.
Residents Call for More Police Patrols
Following the reported attacks, residents urged authorities to increase police patrols and take action to prevent further incidents.
The reports surrounding the “Ruiru Vampire” incidents sparked fear among Gitothua residents, with many calling for stronger security measures.
Njeri said reports of more people being attacked had continued to worry residents.
“There are reports that he has bitten someone somewhere, and that he has bitten a child somewhere. Every day, there seems to be something happening because of him,” she said.
Additionally, Isaac Ndegwa, the victim’s brother, asked residents with CCTV footage from areas where the incidents occurred to share the information with security agencies.
“We are asking the government to provide enough security. Those who have CCTV footage showing where the incident happened should come forward and help security officers with the footage,” Isaac said.
Authorities are expected to provide more details on the reported arrest as investigations into the “Ruiru Vampire” allegations continue.
