Residents across parts of Nairobi will face a temporary water shortage after a major pipeline burst. Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company announced the disruption in a press release issued on Friday, May 1, 2026.
According to the statement, the burst occurred along a key transmission line in Gigiri.
“Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Ltd. (Nairobi Water) wishes to inform the public of a temporary water supply interruption affecting several residential and commercial areas in the city, following a major burst on the NCT–Kigoro–Gigiri–Kabete transmission pipeline at Gigiri,” the notice read.
Consequently, many homes and businesses will struggle to access water during this period. The outage will affect daily routines, especially in high-demand neighborhoods.
As a result, supply from Kabete Reservoirs has stopped in several areas. These include Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, Kileleshwa, Upperhill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Nairobi West, Uthiru, Karen, Kibera and Lang’ata.

Meanwhile, repair teams have moved on-site to fix the damage. The company has partnered with Athi Water Works Development Agency to speed up the process.
“Repair works are currently underway, with teams from Athi Water Works Development Agency (AWWDA) and Nairobi Water on site working to restore supply. Water supply is expected to resume by 6:00 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026,” the statement added.

At the same time, the company has urged residents to use water sparingly. This step will help manage the limited supply.
In addition, Nairobi Water will provide bowser services for priority needs. Customers can request the service through the provided code.
Finally, the company expressed regret over the disruption and asked residents to remain patient. It also assured the public that it will maintain water quality and health standards during the repair process.
