One person was injured following a clash between supporters of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) outside Chelemei Polling Station in Kapsasian Ward during the Emurua Dikirr by-election.
The incident occurred on Thursday, May 14, as residents headed to the polls to elect a new Member of County Assembly following the death of former area MP Johana Ng’eno in a helicopter crash.
Nakuru County Commissioner Reuben Lotiatia confirmed the incident as voting got underway across the ward.
The contest has largely been dominated by two main candidates; David Kipsang Keter, popularly known as Dollarline, who is vying on the UDA ticket, and Vincent Rotich of the DCP.
Keter, a seasoned businessman, has emerged as one of the main contenders in the race.
Tension Reported Outside Polling Station
According to reports from the area, tensions escalated after DCP supporters allegedly came under attack while heading to various polling stations.
Further claims indicated that some of the party’s agents were initially denied access to polling centres before intervention allowed them entry.
The developments reportedly triggered the confrontation between rival supporters outside Chelemei Polling Station, leading to the injury of one person during the chaos.
In the aftermath of the incident, DCP candidate Keter visited the injured individual in hospital as concerns mounted over the security situation surrounding the by-election.
Security personnel were deployed in the area as authorities monitored the voting process amid fears that political tensions could disrupt polling activities in parts of the ward.

Attention Shifts to Ol Kalou Contest
Another key political battleground is Ol Kalou Constituency, where voters are also expected to elect a new Member of Parliament following the death of area MP David Kiaraho on March 29, 2026, while receiving treatment at the Nairobi Hospital after a period of illness.
The constituency has attracted several high-profile contenders, among them DCP candidate Sammy Kamau Ngotho, a former Member of the County Assembly (MCA), UDA’s Samuel Muchina Nyaga, and Jubilee Party aspirant Wilson Kigwi.
Ahead of the by-elections, the IEBC had issued stern warnings to politicians and their supporters against engaging in electoral violence or sponsoring chaos during campaigns and voting exercises.
