SHA Extends Deadline for Ksh10M and Below NHIF Claims

The Social Health Authority (SHA) has extended the deadline for healthcare providers to raise concerns over verified defunct NHIF claims worth KSh10 million and below to July 31, 2026.
Kenyans operating facilities who haven’t signed off a claim to do so before then.
According to SHA’s notice published on Friday, 24th July, the fund is for health care providers who need validation on validated bills that have yet to be approved.
“The Social Health Authority (SHA) wishes to inform healthcare providers that have not yet completed the sign-off process for verified defunct NHIF claims valued at Ksh 10 million and below that they may submit any concerns or requests for clarification to the Authority for review,” the notice reads.

Hospitals to Submit Specific Documentation to SHA
SHA instructed impacted facilities to submit written requests to SHA by Friday, July 31, 2026, for the SHA to evaluate before issuing any payments.
As per the notice, each submission should state the following;
- Facility name.
- Previous NHIF facility code.
- Amount for all pending claims.
- Appropriate claims reference numbers.
- Detailed description of the matter.
- Enclosures such as claims statements.
- Reconciliation statements.
The facilities have been advised to submit their reports to the SHA email address before the due date.

Review of NHIF Claims Within 3 Weeks
SHA reassured health care workers that all applications would be processed within three weeks of the deadline.
“The Authority will review all submissions within three weeks after the deadline and communicate the outcome to individual facilities via the appropriate channels,” SHA said.
The clarification only applies to validated defunct NHIF claims with a value of Ksh 10 million or below, with the intention to clear any lingering questions before accrediting claims.
SHA also stated that the process of review would be transparent and evidence-based.
“SHA remains committed to ensuring that the review process is fair, transparent, and based on verified claim records,” the authority said.
