Wanted Suspect Linked to Gang Rape, Abduction Arrested in Thika

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Thika West have arrested Crispus Mwangi, a wanted suspect believed to be linked to cases of abduction, gang rape, and a series of phone-snatching incidents reported in the area.

According to a statement dated September 10, detectives found Crispus Mwangi, inside his rented house during an intelligence-led operation in the Athena area.

“Detectives from DCI Thika West have arrested a wanted suspect believed to be linked to cases of abduction, gang rape and a series of phone-snatching incidents reported within the area,” read part of the statement.

During the operation, detectives also recovered a suspected stolen motorcycle believed to have been used in some of the phone-snatching incidents.

The motorcycle, a black TVS bearing registration number KMGS 004N, was recovered from the suspect’s premises as detectives continued their investigations into the reported cases.

“During the operation, the detectives also recovered a suspected stolen motorcycle, registration number KMGS 004N, a black TVS, which is believed to have been used in some of the phone-snatching incidents,” DCI stated.

Following his arrest, Mwangi was subjected to an identification parade.

The DCI said he was positively identified in connection with an ongoing case of abduction and gang rape pending before the Thika Law Courts.

He was also positively identified in connection with four other robbery cases that are currently under investigation.

DCI Investigates Suspect’s Alleged Role

As  a result, DCI have since intensified investigations to establish the full extent of the suspect’s alleged involvement in the reported offences.

The investigators are also seeking to establish whether other individuals may have been involved in the cases.

Mwangi is expected to be arraigned in court upon completion of the ongoing investigations.

His arrest came hours after DCI detectives in Buruburu arrested another wanted suspect, a 32-year-old man identified as Kevin Odiwuor Otieno, alias Engineer Kevin.

Otieno was arrested over remarks allegedly made at Jacaranda Grounds in Kayole during a Bunge la Mwananchi event that detectives said were intended to incite ethnic hatred, hostility and violence against Burundian nationals living and working in Kenya.

According to the DCI, the remarks were captured on video and later circulated widely on social media, prompting investigations.

Preliminary investigations established that the utterances were directed at Burundian nationals residing in Kenya and engaged in various economic activities, including employment.

The DCI said Otieno is expected to be charged with hate speech contrary to Section 13(1)(a), as read with Section 62 of the National Cohesion and Integration Act, alongside any other appropriate charges that may arise from the ongoing investigations.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in court Today Thursday September 10, 2026.
