Woodvine Okoth, popularly known as “Aboka,” has emerged as a key figure at Migori Youth FC, where he serves as captain and plays a crucial role in the team’s successful promotion campaign.

The versatile defender has been instrumental in guiding the squad through competitive fixtures as they chased a place in the top tier of Kenyan football.

Migori Youth were crowned champions of the FKF National Super League (NSL) after a 2-1 win over Equity Bank FC, which took their points tally to 80.

They finished four points ahead of 3K FC, who placed second with 76 points, with one match remaining for all teams.

Head coach Sammy Otulo Owano has received much credit for the milestone achievement. However, the success also reflects strong team effort and leadership from captain Aboka.

Early Life and Background

Okoth comes from Obama Village in Central Sakwa, Awendo Constituency, Migori County.

He grew up in a football family, with the game running in his lineage.

He uses his grandfather’s name, “Aboka,” on his jerseys in honour of the family legacy.

His brother, Rama Otieno, popularly known as “Otieno Odabo,” has also made a name in Kenyan football as a solid shot-blocker.

He has played for clubs such as Shabana, Vihiga United, and Kakamega Homeboyz FC.

His younger brother, known as “Mzee” is also a goalkeeper and is currently in high school.

He previously played as the first-choice goalkeeper for Obama Primary School from Class Four to Class Eight, completing his KCPE in 2022.
