How Mother and Daughter Allegedly Defrauded Family of Ksh 40M Land

Share

Two suspects, a mother and her daughter, have been arrested by detectives from the Land Fraud Investigation Unit (LFIU).

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mary Muthoni Njogu and her daughter Veronica Wambui Ng’ang’a are accused of orchestrating a multi-million land fraud scheme that involves family property.

A complaint was made by a family member who was acting on behalf of his siblings. After the complaint, it prompted the DCI to start an investigation into the matter.

The DCI says the two suspects had transferred valuable assets of family land in Karatina, which is estimated at approximately Ksh 40 million, and put it into their own names and those of associated companies.

Investigations Of The Case

Preliminary investigations established that the two suspects made the secret transfers from 2020 to 2023, and they deliberately left every other family member in the dark regarding the transactions.

After the investigation was concluded by detectives, the case was then submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

ODPP reviewed the matter and gave a direction that the suspects should be charged with conspiracy to defraud and fraudulent procurement of title.

Therefore, the mother and daughter were arrested yesterday, August 18, 2026, and are set to be arraigned at the Karatina Law Courts today, August 19, 2026.

Court Date

Additionally, detectives are expected to present the findings of their investigations before the court as the suspects face the charges.

They will be formally presented with the charges they are facing, and the court will then issue further directions on the matter.

In June, detectives also arrested former Tigania East MP Josphat Gichunge Mwirabua over allegations of defrauding land buyers of more than Ksh 56 million through property deals.
