13 Injured After Two School Buses Carrying 101 Pupils Are Involved in Accident

Thirteen people were injured after two school buses carrying 101 pupils were involved in a road accident in the Riting area of West Pokot County.

The Kenya Red Cross confirmed the incident on Tuesday, July 28, saying six males and seven females sustained injuries.

Emergency responders evacuated the injured to Kapenguria Referral Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

“Kenya Red Cross is responding to a road traffic incident involving two school buses carrying 101 pupils in Riting Area, West Pokot County. So far, 13 injured persons (6 males and 7 females) have been evacuated to Kapenguria Referral Hospital for treatment,” the humanitarian agency said.

Emergency Teams Respond as Pupils Are Moved to Safety

The Kenya Red Cross said psychosocial support is being provided to the pupils, teachers and others affected by the accident.

Teachers and pupils are also being moved to a safe holding area as emergency teams continue to manage the situation.

Response teams from the Kenya Red Cross in West Pokot and Turkana counties are at the scene.

The teams are working alongside county ambulance services, an additional ambulance from KENGEN, the National Police Service and other emergency responders.

The humanitarian agency said the response teams remain on the ground as efforts to assist those affected continue.
