Safaricom has announced a scheduled system upgrade that will result in a temporary disruption of all M-PESA services, including airtime purchases, for three hours on Monday, 22nd September 2025, from 12:30 a.m. to 3:30 a.m.

In an official customer notice dated 19th September 2025, the telecommunications giant stated that the maintenance is part of its ongoing efforts to enhance service reliability and deliver a secure and seamless user experience.

“For 18 years, M-PESA has continued to transform lives across Kenya, connecting you, our customers, to opportunities every day,” Safaricom stated.

The upgrade is aimed at supporting Safaricom’s commitment to providing “always-on, safe, secure, and worry-free financial products and services.”

During the three-hour maintenance window, all M-PESA services will be temporarily unavailable, including money transfers, payments, withdrawals, deposits, and airtime purchases.

Safaricom assured customers that the timing of the activity was carefully chosen to minimize disruptions.

“The timing of this maintenance activity has been planned to result in minimal inconvenience to our customers,” the statement read.

The company concluded by thanking its customers for their continued support and understanding.

“We apologize for any inconvenience that may be caused and thank you for your continued support.”

Safaricom regularly conducts system upgrades to ensure its infrastructure remains robust and responsive to the growing demands of digital financial services in Kenya.
