Safaricom Explains How to Qualify for Fuliza Limit Increase in 2026

Share

At the beginning of January 2026, several Kenyans reported on social media that they had received SMS notifications from Safaricom indicating that their Fuliza overdraft limit had been increased, allowing them to access a higher borrowing amount than before.

Fuliza is a service that allows M-PESA customers to complete transactions even when their account balance is insufficient.

According to Safaricom’s HY2026 results (six months ending September 30, 2025), the number of Fuliza users rose from 7.5 million to 9.1 million, with Kenyans borrowing a record KSh 629.2 billion during that period.

On Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Safaricom user Mwaura Kabugi asked on X why he was left out of the limit increase after many others had reported that their limit was increased.

“Hey @SafaricomPLC, did you forget about me? I noticed some others have had their Fuliza limit increased,” said Mwaura.

Other Tips to Qualify for Fuliza

  • Registration with a valid Kenyan National ID, passport, or Military ID.
