One person has died and three others, including a traffic police officer, are critically injured after a road accident that occurred at the Makutano flyover along the Makutano–Sagana highway in Kirinyaga County.

The accident occurred on the evening of April 22, 2026, when a boda boda rider travelling against traffic towards Sagana under the flyover collided head-on with a matatu.

The boda boda rider suffered severe injuries due to the impact of the collision.

He was then rushed to a nearby private hospital in Makutano town where he later passed on due to his injuries while receiving treatment.

Traffic Caused By Accident

Police say the accident scene quickly turned chaotic as officers and members of the public responded to assist and control traffic along the busy highway.

The traffic officer who had responded to the scene was among those injured when another vehicle accident took place.

A saloon car allegedly failed to stop despite efforts to control traffic around the accident scene and collided with the matatu at the scene.
