A Nakuru widow has filed a lawsuit against Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker Steve Wachira Waiganjo over a disputed seven-acre land in an escalating ownership row that has persisted for many years.
Salome Wanjiru Kamau has accused the Speaker of fraudulently taking the ownership of the land by transferring it in his name in 2018.
She stated that during this time, Steve Wachira was her lawyer, whom she had hired to process the title deed following her husband’s death.
Wanjiru is claiming the land was first allocated to her deceased husband by Kenya’s first president, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, in 1976, and she had lived in it peacefully with her family for decades.
“I hired him to process the title for me; he instead took the land and transferred it in his name,” she claimed in her petition.

She said the Speaker had charged her Ksh 150,000 to process her title, and she was shocked when a Nyandarua MCA reportedly came and started to claim the land, asking her to leave.
“The MCA said that he bought the land and wants to start developing it,” she explained.

She, however, got court orders, obtained through her lawyer Victor Anyango, restraining any activity on the land as she also claims to have suffered intimidation and physical harm during the ongoing ownership tussle.
Speaker Wachira, on his part, has dismissed the allegations as false and maintained that the land was legally his.
“This land is legitimately mine; I have all the documents to prove it, and the investigations have shown no fraud committed by me”, Speaker Wachira stated.
He further said that the matter had been investigated several times by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, and no offense had been found.
The court stated the matter will be revised again on June 29th, 2026.
