5 Dead as Gold Mine Collapses in Transmara, Narok County

A gold mine has collapsed in the Kilimapesa area in Transmara, Narok County, on July 22, 2026, resulting in the death of five people.

Police say the scene is secured as rescue efforts are underway to remove the people who died from the gold mine.

The specialised rescue team sent to the scene has deployed advanced underground surveillance cameras and other technical equipment that are essential for the mission’s success.

The deceased have been identified as Kwaku Noah, Issahaku Osman, Mohammed Ibrahim, Salifu, and Aliu Waliu.

Transmara Gold Mine Victims In Mortuary

All victims were transported to Lolgorian Sub-County Hospital, where they now remain in the mortuary pending further examination, identification procedures, and eventual release to their grieving families for burial.

The cause of the collapse remains uncertain as investigations begin to determine it.

Local authorities have raised concerns about the safety of unregulated mining activities in the region, which put lives at risk.

Kilimapesa and parts of Transmara are known for artisanal and small-scale gold mining, where miners often work in manually dug shafts that are mostly a safety hazard.

Mines Collapsing
