8-Hour Blackouts: Kenya Power Lists Areas to Lose Electricity on Monday

Kenya Power has planned outages in selected areas in Nyeri, Embu, and Kirinyaga counties on Monday, 27th July 2026, for routine inspection of its power network.
According to a public notification, customers in certain areas of the region may experience outages for up to eight and a half hours.
Throughout Nyeri County, the electricity will be off from 9.00 a.m. To 5.00 p.m. At sundry sections of Kamakwa and Kamuyu.
“The affected areas are Upper Ring Road, Baraka Estate, Kamakwa market, Kamakwa Water Works, Muga Academy, Nyewasco offices, Nyawira Estate, Kamuyu C/Fact, Kanoga, Gitathinni, St. Xavier Academy, Mwonjoria, White House, Kandara market, Mt Kenya salvation, PPOS residence and neighbours, customers.” The board noted.

Kenya Power Schedules Power Interruptions in Embu County and Other Areas
Another outage will be in Kiawaiguru TBC and Kariki TBC at the same time.
Customers at Muthuthi-ini TBC, Kiawaiguru TBC, Mutito TBC, Thangathi TBC, Gitema-ini TBC, Chehe Primary School, Kariki TBC, Kariki Catholic, Safaricom and Airtel booster sites, and all customers nearby will be without power.
In Embu County, Kenya Power said customers in Kigumo and Kathunguri will experience an outage from 8.30 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
Areas affected include Kegonge Secondary School, Kariru Secondary School, Gwa Kanjo, Mukuria Secondary School, Ngiori, Gataumwa, Kathugu Coffee Factory, Ngurukiri and surrounding customers.
In the public maintenance schedule done by Kenya Power, it was indicated that such an interruption is due to ongoing power maintenance scheduled for Monday, 27th, July.

Planned Power Interruptions in Various Locations
It was further added that the work will be taking place between 9.00 A.M. and 5.00 P.M. In all places.
“We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” Kenya Power said.
Meanwhile, in Kirinyaga County, power will also be interrupted from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.
In Kavote, Kabare Girls and Ithareini, the outage will affect Bekam Hotel, Kimunye Tea Factory, Kavote, Mutige Boys, Ithareini Market, Gatunguru Primary School, Kabare Girls, Kiangwenyi and nearby customers.
It also served as a subtle reminder to customers that “all installations are to be considered live at all times during the interruption.”
