DCI Arrests Taiwanese Man After Sniffer Dog Detects Heroin at Isebania Border

A 29-year-old Taiwanese National has been arrested by DCI at the Isebania One Stop Border Post (OSBP) in Migori county after the DCI suspected he was carrying drugs in his luggage.

According to a statement by DCI, the suspect, who has been identified as Wang Hsiang-hui, was attempting to enter Kenya at the border with drugs when security flagged him.

The DCI says all this was discovered during a routine security check after a police detection dog attached to the K9 unit signalled the presence of suspicious substances in one of the bags.

After being alerted by the detection dog, officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) conducted a thorough search of the luggage and recovered 26 wrapped capsules containing a powdery substance.

Heroin Discovered

DCI says the substance weighed about 18.26 grams and preliminary tests conducted indicated that the substance was heroin.

On the same note, the Taiwanese suspect was immediately arrested and taken into custody awaiting his arraignment in court.

He is expected to face charges under the Kenyan narcotics and drugs laws once the investigation is complete.

Additionally, the heroin that was recovered has been secured as evidence to support the investigations and any court proceedings.

Suspect In Custody

DCI has not established whether the suspect was acting alone or whether investigations are underway to determine possible links to a wider drug trafficking network.

The DCI says it remains steadfast in the fight against drug trafficking and other transnational crimes, working closely with partner agencies to safeguard Kenya’s borders and protect communities from the devastating effects of narcotic drugs.

Meanwhile, the DCI says they continue to work closely with other law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and other crimes.

Drug trafficking remains one of the transnational crimes that the DCI usually targets, with border points and even airports subjected to routine checks to prevent drugs from entering the country.
