Junet Reveals How They Were Allegedly Paid to Impeach Gachagua

A video that has gone viral on social media has sparked political debate over the impeachment of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

This is after Suna East member of parliament and National Assembly Minority leader Junet Mohamed said that members of parliament were allegedly paid to impeach Gachagua.

Speaking during a public event in the viral video, Junet claims that money was distributed to members of parliament during the impeachment process.

“When we were impeaching former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, there was some money that was moving around in Parliament. I will say the truth, there was something moving around,” Junet said.

Bribery Allegations

Junet further said that some people received the money but they do not have anything to show for it because they failed to invest it wisely.

“There are some people that received the money but have not constructed their homesteads. Impeachment does not come every day. If you got something from Gachagua’s impeachment, please make your homestead well,” he said.

He urged his colleagues to spend their money wisely back at home rather than having a lavish lifestyle in Nairobi.

Some of his colleagues were attacked when he said that some of their homes do not look good and they have money. Saying they should not spend money on girls but do meaningful things.

Not All MP’s

Additionally, Junet also claimed that leaders from some regions were not involved in the alleged corruption to impeach former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.

However, he did not disclose who was bribing them nor any names of members of parliament who allegedly received the bribe to sway their votes on impeachment.

Earlier, Rigathi Gachagua had also alleged that members of parliament were receiving bribes in order to process his removal from the office of the deputy president.

These allegations made by Junet have attracted widespread public attention, with the video circulating on social media and sparking different reactions from netizens.

Online Reactions

Some netizens are calling for investigations into the matter while others question if at all the allegations made are in any way true.

Muyila said, “This admission alone should make Junet a candidate for EACC to go & write an elaborate report on how much he personally received and mention the rest who equally received. I mean, we are talking about taxpayers’ money being lost on bribes. Such admission should be treated seriously,”

“This is an indictment to the whole parliament, the president and the High Court. I still believe all of them violated the 2010 constitution,” said Winnie.

Rigathi Gachagua was impeached by Parliament in October 2024 after both the National Assembly and the Senate approved motions to remove him from office.

This made him the first Deputy President in Kenya’s history to be impeached under the 2010 Constitution.
