The National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has shut down eight entertainment establishments for failing to comply with noise pollution control directives issued earlier in the year.
In a statement released on December 2, the agency said the crackdown follows a public notice issued on September 18, 2025.
Quoting the authority, NEMA stated, “Following the issuance of a public notice on noise pollution control on 18th September 2025, NEMA Kenya has today issued a closure order to the following facilities for failing to comply with the requirements listed in the previous environmental restoration orders.”
The affected establishments include Kettle House on Muthangari Drive, Boba Drinks and Café in Kilimani, Speedy’s Bar and Restaurant along Watamu Beach Road, Bar Next Door on Othaya Road in Kilimani, Emirates Lounge in Pipeline, and Infusion Lounge and Status Lounge, both located in Ruaka along Limuru Road. Kifaru Place along Mombasa Road was also ordered to shut down.

According to the agency, the targeted facilities have continued to disturb nearby communities despite earlier warnings.
The continued disregard for environmental regulations prompted the latest enforcement measures, which require operators to halt activities until they fully comply with legal standards.
NEMA said the closures are meant to safeguard public health and restore peace in affected neighbourhoods.
NEMA noted, “The Authority has continued to receive noise complaints from the facilities even after being warned through earlier orders.”

NEMA has issued strict guidelines that the facilities must follow before resuming operations.
In addition, operators must install proper soundproofing systems to control noise emissions.
They are also required to conduct a noise survey to ensure compliance with national noise pollution thresholds before reopening.
The authority directed, “The facilities are therefore directed to close immediately, undertake an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and obtain a license from the Authority.”
