ODM on Sale? Members Demand Answers on Alleged Night Meeting to Sell the Party

Share

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party members are demanding answers following the alleged night meeting at State House to sell the party.

In a letter by Rachael Tabitha Machoka, ODM Life Member, on December 5th, 2025, she demanded clarification and accountability on the matter from the ODM party Chairperson, Gladys Atieno Wanga and Junet Mohammed.

She said that as members, they will defend the values, integrity, and democratic principles upon which the ODM was founded.

“Recent allegations publicly raised by our political nemesis, that senior ODM officials have been “selling the party at night” and that deposits have already been paid in these clandestine dealings, are not only gravely disturbing, but strike at the very heart of our party’s integrity and the trust bestowed upon us by millions of loyal members and supporters across the Nation,” read part of the notice.

Reasons Why ODM Members Demand Answers

According to life members, these allegations undermines the credibility of the party citing that they are results originating from a political nemesis.

1. Breach of ODM Constitution

Article 6.2.2(b)

“Party officials must at all times uphold transparency, accountability, and adherence to collective party decision making.”

Article 7.5

“No member or official shall conduct negotiations, agreements, or financial engagements on behalf of the party without formal NEC authorization.”

They said ODM is not anyone’s personal property or private enterprise to be traded in secret adding that if any transaction political, financial, or otherwise has been conducted without the mandate of the National Delegates Convention (NDC), National Executive Committee (NEC), or the Parliamentary Group (PG), then such actions constitute an express violation of the ODM Constitution.

2. Betrayal of The Raila Odinga School Of Thought

They recognized Raila’s legacy and moral philosophy he fought for including:

  •  Sacrifice,
  • Transparency,
  • Collective leadership and
  •  Unshakable commitment to democracy.

Message to Gladys Wanga

Furthermore, they called out Wanga’s leadership conduct in handling party matters and even reminded about earlier petition that demanded NDC to elect party leader in accordance with the ODM Constitution.

  • You are not the Party Leader of ODM.
  • You must operate within the confines of your office not above it.
  •  Your recent pattern of unilateral decision making and overreach has been noted with deep concern.

Four things Members Demand Clarification On

Additionally, they gave Wanga seven days to answer the following questions:

1. Have you engaged in any political or financial negotiations involving ODM without NEC approval?

2. Have you received any deposit or financial commitment as alleged?

3. Who authorized any meetings or transactions conducted on behalf of ODM?

4. Are there ongoing negotiations that the party membership is unaware of?
