Kenya Kwanza Alliance nominated MP Denar Joseph Hamisi has died at 56.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the lawmaker’s death in an official communication released early Saturday. Hamisi joined the National Assembly after being nominated by the Amani National Congress (ANC) following the 2022 General Election.

“It is with profound sorrow that I hereby notify the House and the entire Parliamentary fraternity of the untimely demise of Nominated Member, the late Hon. Denar Joseph Hamisi, MP, who passed on today, Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7am,” Wetang’ula said.

The Speaker added by sending heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the slain MP.

“On behalf of all Members and staff of the National Assembly, and on my own behalf, I extend heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the late Hon Denar, and to all who experienced his humility and unwavering dedication to serving the nation and community,” he added.

The Role He Played in Parliament

During his tenure in Parliament, he served on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture, as well as the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, where he worked with commitment and diligence.

According to Wetang’ula, Denar served in both public and private sectors before joining the National Assembly.

“His extensive service in both the public and private sectors before joining Parliament stands as a testament to his lifelong devotion to Kenya,” Wetang’ula said.

Parliament to be Involved in Burial Arrangements

Speaker Wetang’ula also said the National Assembly will take part in burial arrangements of the slain MP.

Therefore, he appointed a team of MPs led by Kilifi North MP and Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Owen Baya.

“We have appointed a team led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Party, Hon. Owen Baya Yaa, CBS, MP, to liaise with the family and support a befitting farewell,” Speaker asserted.
