Veteran broadcaster Festus Amimo of KBC has died. Amimo, who headed KBC’s Dholuo service at Mayienga Radio, passed away early Sunday morning, December 7, 2025.
Mayienga FM confirmed his death in a statement on its social media platforms, noting that he collapsed at home as he prepared for work.
News of his passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from Kenyans across the country.
Interior PS Raymond Omollo remembered him as a committed professional and a loyal friend.
“I am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend, Festus Amimo. He was warm, steady, and genuinely kind — the sort of person whose humility left a mark on everyone he met,” Omollo said.
He added that Amimo’s leadership at Mayienga Radio and as chair of the Luo Journalists Association had a lasting impact, shaping young storytellers and elevating the profession.

ODM Communications Director Philip Etale mourned Amimo’s passing, describing it as a deeply painful loss to his family, colleagues, and the media fraternity.
“Bro, your sudden death this morning has come as a shocker. Yesterday you were alive and full of live as you have always been. So cheerful and full of hope for better today, then all of a sudden… you are gone. Omwami Festus Amimo WA, this is very devastating news to me and all who knew you. To your family, fans, colleagues at the BH (KBC) and friends, I can only say, we have lost big,” Etale said.

Senator Prof. Tom Ojienda remembered Festus as a man with humility and kindness to any who crossed his path.
“It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the sudden passing of Festus Amimo,Head of KBC Dholuo at Mayienga Radio. Festus was more than a journalist.He remained a friend, a brother and a steady presence whose humility and kindness touched everyone who crossed his path,” Ojienda said.
