Trump Targets Congo Minerals After DRC–Rwanda Peace Deal

Share

President Donald Trump has announced that US has secured access to vast deposits of rare earth and critical minerals in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, a direct result of a newly signed peace accord between the two nations brokered by the White House.

Speaking while delivering economic addresses in PA, President Trump said the African countries agreed to allow them access to their minerals and they will do so.

In an address, President Trump highlighted the mineral agreement as a key outcome of the negotiations.

“I ended the war between Rwanda and DR Congo, and they said Please, we would like you to come and take our minerals, which we will do,” Trump said.

The agreement was signed by DRC President Félix Tshisekedi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame to a permanent ceasefire, the disarmament of non-state forces, and the return of refugees and in that ending their war.

For years, the United States has relied heavily on China for the global processing and supply of rare earth minerals.

American businesses have priority access to the nation’s enormous mineral wealth thanks to the US-DRC agreement.

On significant mining projects, US companies are granted “right of first offer.” The DRC has substantial reserves of lithium, copper, and cobalt. This concludes an incredible six months.

The Trump administration has reportedly signed mineral access agreements with Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Ukraine since August.

Additionally, it has negotiated bilateral agreements with Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, and Saudi Arabia.
