The people of Lugari and Likuyani constituencies are reeling from shock following the death of veteran politician and medical doctor, Dr. Enoch Wamalwa Kibunguchy.

Tributes have poured in from across the country on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, morning, with many describing the late legislator as a pillar of the community.

“The larger Lugari has lost. We have been plunged into mourning again… Sad day, sad month, and a sad year for our people,” ODM Communications Director Philip Etale said.

His passing marks a “dark year” for the region, coming closely on the heels of the loss of another prominent leader, the late Cyrus Jirongo (CJ).

Dr. Kibunguchy died at an Eldoret hospital on Monday night after a period of illness.

Dr. Kibunguchy was a titan in Western Kenya politics. He first rose to prominence in the 2002 General Election, succeeding the late Cyrus Jirongo (CJ) to represent the larger Lugari Constituency.

When the constituency was split, his track record of service continued as he represented the newly created Likuyani Constituency for two consecutive terms between 2013 and 2022.

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula paid tribute to Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy

Dr. Kibunguchy was not only known for his political career but also for his contributions as a medical professional, often balancing his duties in the wards with his responsibilities in the National Assembly.

In a statement released on his official channels, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula paid tribute to Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy praising the late legislator for his commitment to public service and his hard work representing his constituents.

“I have received with profound sorrow the news of the passing of former Likuyani Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Dr. Enoch Kibunguchy, who died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Eldoret,” Wetangula wrote on his page.

He remembered the former MP as a “devoted public servant” who balanced his career as a medical doctor with a principled tenure in Parliament, always prioritizing the growth and well-being of the Likuyani community.

“Dr. Kibunguchy was a devoted public servant whose life was marked by humility, compassion, and steadfast service, having distinguished himself both as a medical professional and as a legislator. During his tenure in the National Assembly, he was a diligent and principled member who consistently championed the development agenda and the welfare of the people of Likuyani,” Wetangula added.
