Nairobi Women Representative Race Heats Up as Several Women Signal Bid Against Passaris

Nairobi Women Representative race heats up after several women hints about contesting to unseat the current Women Rep Esther Passaris.

As the country approaches the 2027 general elections, women include Karen Nyamu, Pauline Njoroge, Scovia Aoko among others have shown interest for that seat.

This article reviews several women who have shown interest in contesting for the Nairobi Women Rep seat for the upcoming elections.

However, Passaris said that she will not be defending her seat for the third term after his second term in office is done.

“By 2027, God willing, I will have completed two full terms as Nairobi Woman Rep. I believe it is time for another woman to lead,” Esther Passaris said

1. Millicent Omanga

Former nominated Senator Millicent Omanga hinted at running for the seat ahead of the 2027 elections.

She is reportedly set to ditch the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party and join the opposition for her bid.

  • Early Life, Education and Political Background 

Omanga was born in Kiamokama, Kisii County, in 1982, before she attended secondary school at Mumbi Girls High School.

After high school studies, she enrolled in Medical Training College but reportedly dropped out due to financial constraints.

Later, Millicent joined the University of Nairobi, where she pursued a degree in journalism before enrolling for a master’s in commerce at the same institution.

Former Senator who comes from a family of seven daughters, is married to Francis Nyamiobo, a medical doctor. The two, who have been married for ten years, have been blessed with two children, a boy named Wayne and a girl named Maya.

Omanga rose to prominence in 2013 when she was appointed a director at KenGen, a position she held until 2017.

She joined active politics in 2017 when she vied for the Nairobi Women Representative position but lost to Esther Passaris of the ODM Party. After losing the elections, Omanga was nominated to the Senate by Jubilee Party a position she held until 2022.

In the 2022 polls, she again attempted her luck at the Nairobi Women Representative position under United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party but still lost to Passaris.

2. Karen Nyamu

Karen Nyamu is a nominated Senator who is also reportedly eyeing the Nairobi Women Representative seat.

On November 19, 2025, Passaris endorsed Karen Nyamu for the seat as she is not defending his seat.

“Karen is not bold enough, so I’m going to do this for her. I said I was not going to run for Woman Rep again, and the reason why I’m not going to run again in 2027 is that it is an affirmative seat; if I have done it for two terms, I need to look for something else to do,” she said.

  • Early Life, and Political Background 

Nyamu was born in the Eastlands area of Nairobi and studied at Limuru Girls for secondary education.

She graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor’s Degree in Law and later joined Kenya School of Law, where she pursued a diploma in Law.

Additionally, she also has a master’s degree in International relations.

In 2013, she joined politics as she contested for the position of Member of the Nairobi County Assembly (MCA) for Nairobi County on a The National Alliance (TNA) party ticket and won.

She contested for the seat in 2017 but lost.

3. Scovia Aoko

Scovia Aoko is a social media influencer who has also shown interest in vying for the seat.

  • Early Life and Political Background 

Scophine Otieno, who is popularly known as “Maverick Aoko” hails from Nyakach, Kisumu County, and was born on March 2nd, 1992.

She attended local schools in Kisumu and moved to Nairobi for higher learning, where she pursued a diploma in Journalism at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication.

Later, she joined the University of Nairobi to pursue Political Science.

4. Nyako (Roseline Ngolo)

She was born on June 23, 2025.

Nyako moved to Germany around 2005 in search of greener pastures.

The popular TikToker has revealed plans to contest for the seat as she told Passaris to pack and leave.

“Esther Passaris, start packing your belongings and planning your exit because we are coming for the Nairobi Woman Representative seat. Us TikTokers are not laughing this round, and we are not begging. You will leave that seat for us by fire,” she declared.

5. Pauline Njoroge 

Pauline Njoroge is a social media propagandist and commentator who has also shown interest in the Nairobi Women’s Representative seat.

“Yes, in 2027 I will be offering myself for leadership in Nairobi,” Pauline said.

  • Early Life, Education and Political Background 

Pauline also worked in the Azimio campaign team as a social media propagandist and strategist in the run-up to the 2022 General Election.
