Porro Ward Member of the County Assembly, Patrick Lerte, has passed away.

Samburu clerk of the National Assembly, Fred Lenapeer, confirmed Lerte’s death in an internal memo, stating that the politician died on the morning of Sunday, December 28.

Lerte had been receiving treatment at Maralal Referral Hospital, though details of his illness have not yet been made public.

He was elected on an Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket in 2022, and the party later merged with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) earlier this year.

Lerte also served as the Chairperson of the County Assembly Committee on Lands, Physical Planning, until his death.

ANC MP Dies

His death comes barely two weeks after parliament also announced the death of ANC-nominated MP Denar Joseph Hamisi.

Speaker Moses Wetang’ula announced that Hamisi passed away on the morning of Saturday, December 6, 2025, at about 7:00 am.

Hamisi, 56, was nominated to the National Assembly after the 2022 General Election under the Amani National Congress (ANC) party, which is part of the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

During his tenure, he served on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, where colleagues praised his humility, diligence, and commitment to public service.

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Hamisi pursued extensive education, earning degrees in Tourism Management, International Business Administration, and Law.

Before entering Parliament, he held senior positions in both the public and private sectors, including roles with the Coast Development Authority, the Electoral Commission of Kenya, and the Kenya Airports Authority.
