The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has provided an update regarding the aircraft incident at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on the afternoon of Monday, December 28, 2025.
In another statement, KAA Acting CEO Dr. Mohamud Gedi said the aircraft that veered off Taxiway Echo has been safely recovered, the taxiway has since been reopened, and airport operations remain normal.
“The aircraft that veered off Taxiway Echo has been safely recovered. The taxiway has since been reopened, and airport operations remain normal,” Gedi said.
“We thank all stakeholders for their cooperation and reaffirm our commitment to safety, security, and efficiency.”
In the first update, KAA stated that the aircraft was a domestic flight from Elwak Airstrip in Mandera to JKIA, Nairobi.
The aircraft had 50 passengers on board when it veered off Taxiway Echo shortly after landing at the airport.
“KAA wishes to inform the public of an aircraft incident that occurred this afternoon at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). A domestic flight from Elwak airstrip in Mandera to JKIA Nairobi with 50 passengers on board veered off Taxiway Echo shortly after landing at JKIA,” reads part of the statement.

However, KAA clarified that all passengers on board and the crew were rescued and are safe.
The Authority said the emergency response teams have also been activated.
“All passengers and crew were safely accounted for. Airport emergency response teams have been activated in line with established procedures,” KAA said.

The Authority explained that airport operations remain normal.
The Authority is working closely with the relevant aviation agencies to ensure the safe removal of the aircraft.
“Kenya Airports Authority reassures the public of its continued commitment to the safety, security, and efficiency of airport operations,” adds the statement.
