Daystar University is a private institution of higher learning in Kenya with a rich history in education and communication.
Its history dates back to 1964 when the university was founded in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, under the name Daystar Publications.
It was later relocated to Kenya in 1971, where the organization was registered in 1973 as Daystar Communications, a non-profit organization.
In its early years, the institution offered short professional courses, such as the five-week International Institute for Christian Communication.
It was in these years that Daystar expanded its curriculum.
The two-year diploma program in Christian Communications was established in 1976, and graduate programs in Christian Communication and Christian Ministries were introduced in 1978.
In 1984, it launched its bachelor’s degree program and later changed its name to Daystar University College.
It became Daystar University after it received a charter from the government of Kenya on 29th September 1994
Daystar University has two campuses.
This campus is situated along the Nairobi-Mombasa Highway, close to the Lukenya Hills, about 40 kilometers away from the capital, Nairobi, in Athi River.
The campus in Nairobi is located where Valley Road and Ngong Road meet, near the Nairobi Hospital.
It has programs in a variety of schools like Business and Economics, Communications, Sciences, Engineering and Health Sciences, and Arts and Social Sciences.
Programmes are offered at doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, diploma, certificate, and short courses.
The bachelor’s degree programs offered include Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Applied Computer Science, Actuarial Science, Biomedical Science, and Environmental Health.
Other available choices include Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Education, Business Administration, Economics, Psychology and Counselling, Social Work, Peace and Conflict Transformation, and Monitoring and Evaluation.

For the 2025–2026 period, the application fee is about Ksh 2,050 for most programs.
Undergraduate tuition ranges between approximately Ksh 99,600 and Ksh 110,000 per semester, while law programs are higher.
Master’s programs cost between about Ksh 110,400 and Ksh 158,625 per semester.
Nursing students pay per credit hour, with detailed semester costs varying by campus.
Additional charges include medical fees, examination fees, and one-time orientation or graduation fees.

Also, there is accommodation at Athi River Main Campus in various hostels charging different fees per semester.
Transport facilities also exist for day scholars who commute from Nairobi or Athi River town.
Catering, hostel, and transportation services are optional, while cafeteria services are on a pay-as-you-eat basis.
